There are plans to update the symbols being used on Ordnance Survey maps according to this article. This is part of a consultation with users of these leisure maps.
I have previously been involved with the Ordnance Survey as one of their GetOutside Champions, and have also written for their Mapping News journal, along with Digimap for Schools resources.
I also made use of an activity which was connected with a One Show competition where viewers helped design symbols which were then added to the map for features such as Solar Farms. I was surprised to read that this was back in 2015!
The article suggests that the Ordnance Survey.:
...will run a project later this year to discover what the public would like to see on its leisure maps. It could be symbols for bike repair shops, cafes, dog waste bins, or jetties and safe river-access points for water sports.I think it's important that the maps don't get too cluttered and this needs careful thought.
