GA Conference 2023 #8: Some sessions I'm looking forward to

I've had a look at the full GA Conference programme which is now available.

It can be downloaded here.

Here are a few sessions which stood out, other than the ones I am involved with myself of course, and those I've flagged up in previous posts in this thread.

- Denise Freeman and Brendan Conway on making GIS 'part of the furniture'

- Professor Alastair Owens' Presidential Lecture - 'Working better together: geographers and collaboration"

- Alistair Hamill on Tectonic teamwork

- Helen Clarke and Sharon Witt on Field-visiting - a collective geographical endeavour

- Katie Hall and David Morgan from ESRI UK on using GIS to build collaborative fieldwork experiences

- The legendary Margaret Roberts on collaborative small group work

- Karen Corfield of Discover the World on Changing Places using Hveragerdi and Selfoss in Iceland as examples

- Sophie Wilson who will be sharing detail of our GI Pedagogy project outcomes including the curriculum hub - this is an ERASMUS+ project I have been involved in for the last three years.

- the SPC workshop on Developing a Sense of Place on your doorstep

- Tom Chivers, author of the book 'London Clay' introducing his research which connects with the practice of mudlarking on the Thames foreshore

- Duncan Hawley leading a debate on the use of models to describe physical processes and systems

- Iram Sammar's lecture 'Let geography breathe: anti-racist pedagogy through decoloniality' - she is also involved in an SPC session on how to begin the process of decolonising case studies.

- Sharon Witt and Helen Clarke's 'Scarecrow Geographies: field wisdom" workshop which will be a must-visit for me.

- A session from Mark Enser, Geography Subject Lead and HMI, Ofsted

- John Wilkinson on 'Britpop, Euro 96 and Cool Brittania' - his last 2 sessions have been fantastic cultural geography showcases

- the Rex Walford Memorial Lecture, which this year is given by Professor Pat Noxolo from the University of Birmingham

There is also the exhibition, and I will go to say hello to colleagues from various organisations I have worked with before, including: the Royal Geographical Society - they have a new free Shackleton poster, and also details of the Young Geographer of the Year competiton; ESRI UK, Hodder Education, Ordnance Survey, British Cartographic Society,

I shall also make a special trip to the Rayburn Tours stand, which is stand 51.

I currently work with Rayburn Tours as a field studies tutor / guide in Iceland.
