Now a teenager... stroppy and irreverent and disregarding the rules...

Winner of the National Trust / Hay Festival Outdoor Book of the Year Award 2011, and shortlisted for ALCS Education Writer of the Year Award that year.

Our website also won a Geographical Association Silver Award.

This book went to Latitude, to Glastonbury, Microsoft HQ and many other places. It led to us working with all sorts of organisations, and versions of it have been used in ERASMUS projects around Europe as well. We also made it across the Atlantic to work with National Geographic Education, and produced an Icelandic version with Discover the World.

It was launched (literally with a catapult) in Manchester.

You can still find occasional second hand copies online if you would like your own copy. They're currently £35 on Amazon.

It was followed by a series of other Mission:Explore books and projects, and the philosophy stays with me. Our guide to being a good geographer is on the wall by my desk in my classroom to this day.

It remains the best project I've been part of in a long and varied career which has seen me work on hundreds of projects, books and resources. Thanks to all those who have engaged with it (and us) over the years, as Mission:Explore, Explorer HQ or in other guises.

Thanks particularly to Dan, Tom and Helen.
