Confirmation yesterday it seems that El Niño event is underway, although the confused state of the world's oceans probably made that less obvious than in previous years.
This is not good news, as it usually creates additional warming.

The previous El Niños are recorded on the Australian Government's Bureau of Meteorology site - one I have used for quite a few years when teaching about Global Atmospheric Circulation.
