River Nar

What's the nearest river to where you live?

Mine is the River Nar.

It is special as it is a chalk stream. There are very few of these, and the UK has many of them. Like all rivers they are currently at risk of contamination by human waste.

The river is only 15 miles long, rising near Mileham and flowing into the Great Ouse in King's Lynn. I've written about it before, when I followed its course as much as possible.

A guide to the river and its management is available here (PDF download).
