I've been digging around in the Internet Archive over the last few days, as I've been updating some of the entries on my GA Presidents blog, which features a biography of all 107 GA Presidents to date. Interestingly the Presidents blog received more visitors yesterday than LivingGeography which must be a first.
I came across a book by Gerald Roe Crone, who was very much involved in the work of the RGS, and was awarded the Victoria Medal.
This book was published in 1968 (an update on an earlier edition).
The book explores the development of geographical thinking and particularly the link with exploration. It ends by considering the challenges that geography has escaping its "capes and bays" reputation.
