Ordnance Survey maps don't stand still.
As well as the frequent and many (tens of thousands of) daily updates to the OS MasterMap, new symbols are added from time to time, although some of them are now an example of a skeuomorph.
Skeuomorphs are symbols which represent something that has since changed e.g. the a picture of a floppy disc to represent change.
Look at the symbol for a phone box, for example and consider how your own phone looks...
A few years ago, some new symbols were added, including one for solar farms.
The results of a recent consultation have been released.
It seems that users want details of where to launch their paddleboards (a sport / activity that is growing in popularity) and also farm shops, amongst other things.
