Place-making: Northstowe

Planning a new settlement is a difficult job.

It's one thing to lay out a plan with identikit housing, another to actually create community cohesion and identity. If a new settlement is going to be a success, there needs to be enough facilities for people to be able to walk or cycle to them within a short distance, or a short time. If people need to get into their car, the area is going to struggle to be sustainable, as not everyone has access to a car. The result can be food deserts and social isolation. Home deliveries have grown since the pandemic, but not everyone has internet access or is happy using smartphone apps and laptops to do their shopping.

Northstowe is a place with some problems it appears from the news stories - residents may say otherwise.

The website for the development is very positive about the benefits for those who choose to live there.

There are some key elements to any new development and Education is one of them.

I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who lives in the area.
