This BBC News piece from a while back provided further evidence and information on the changing shopping habits of people as the cost of food continues to rise.
People are changing what they buy in a range of different ways. This includes buying less of course, but also looking for alternatives to their usual brands.
For some, even this is a luxury, and demand for food bank services is at an all time high with parents skipping meals.
We made a donation to Ely's Foodbank on behalf of the Junior School, at the end of term, and regularly collect food through the year - including at Harvest Festival time.
According to their statistics, as many as one in seven people in the UK.

When I worked for the GA back in 2010 I wrote a resource on food insecurity. This was updated in 2016. The use of food banks was mentioned here in the introduction to the course. The recent update to the GA website means the course has temporarily disappeared.
I also mentioned the Trussell Trust in the Hodder GCSE textbooks that I wrote for the OCR A and B specs as a way of assisting food security. This is becoming increasingly important for many families as food inflation remains at a high level. Food geographies are an area that rewards further investigation.
