How much stuff do we need?

This recent research report which appeared in my Twitter feed earlier is absolutely my sort of thing...

This suggests that to keep one person out of poverty requires about 6 tons of "stuff",

Researchers have estimated for the first time what it takes, quantitatively speaking, to keep one person out of abject poverty: about 6 tons per year of food, fuel, clothing, and other supplies, researchers report this month in Environmental Science & Technology.

There are some technical aspects to it but the general findings are clear enough.
