We've had a certain amount of flooding over the last few months in many parts of the country. The Fenland area where I work had 350% of its usual rainfall in February, and the Welney Wash road, which a colleagues uses for her commute to avoid a long detour has been shut for well over 80 days so far this winter, and been damaged by its regular inundations which has meant further road closure.
I was reminded of this post from November last year, which includes a useful poem to consider when thinking about flood impacts.
Time to repost @samillingworth’s amazing poem on #flooding. It conveys the astounding strangeness of the encounter between cultural narratives, lived experience and the scientific and institutional world of flood risk management. #FloodWords @floodmary @PhialaM @hancloke https://t.co/5hfQE7ltga
