The true cost of AI will reveal itself in the coming years, but we are already aware of the energy cost required to produce pointless outputs in response to pointless questions.
I am currently writing some resources for a MOOC on how AI should be used ethically.
If a school has a curriculum which is based around notions of sustainability, should there be a policy about the use of AI when each query has an energy cost?
We already have the ongoing costs of moving from exercise books to OneNote and similar (which I have resisted so far).
Hey, even @TheEconomist is starting to get it.

AI is not "in the cloud", but all too down to Earth. And profoundly unsustainable in its current form#ClimateEmergency #NatureCrisis #PlanetaryBoundaries https://t.co/SYNdXltTDd
