Worldly Wednesday #16: Newsletters, Oak and Minecraft

Another term-time Wednesday means it's time for another Worldly Wednesday - the first of 2025.

I enjoyed a break over Christmas but am now back at school.

The first thing to mention is something that will be a part of all Worldly Wednesdays going forward. The publication of a Substack newsletter.

#1 was published this morning. You can subscribe and view it here.

I published it as I was sat waiting for my car having its MOT test.
Luckily my little Yaris (well over 100 000 miles on the clock) just needed a new tyre and passed with no problems. Always a bonus at the start of the year.

Home to do some work reviewing some of the Oak National KS3 resources being developed by the Geographical Association. There are hundreds of fully resourced lessons being produced, and they are meant to follow on from the existing Primary resources which I helped write and review through much of last year. Here's the topics for Year 1 as an example.

I did a little work on a project called GeoDEM. Check out our web page.

After lunch, I had a Zoom meeting as part of an Education group on a project which will be coming out later in the year. I'm working on the Education pack, and all I can say about it is that it involves the students playing Minecraft. We had an impressive demo of the progress on the key resource.

Ended the day with a drink with former colleagues talking about days gone by, and the changing nature of education and being a teacher.
