The GA has worked with the Environment Agency to produce two new resources: 'A' level and KS3. The second one will be useful for my forthcoming careers workshop with the RGS.
A level – Holistic and sustainable coastal management
These resources have been written by Gemma Pollard.Designed for use with A level students, the resources help them gain an understanding of how Medmerry in Sussex, UK, is being affected by climate change, erosion and flooding, and the management strategy in this area, including the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process in its development. There are careers links, as students learn about the work of the Environment Agency, including its National Environmental Assessment Service (NEAS) team.
Authored by Dan Whittall, these resources introduce innovative ways of embedding careers into key stage 3 geography lessons. They support Gatsby Benchmarks 4 and 5 by connecting curriculum content to careers and employer engagement.
Using the Humber catchment as a case study, students explore river catchments and flood risk management strategies. The Environment Agency’s partnership with Hello Lamp Post enables ‘virtual conversations’ with staff, allowing students to learn about various job roles associated with managing river catchments.
