Cory Doctorow has long written about the impact of technology in our lives, with a broad theme of futures. I've been familiar with his work going back to the blog Boing Boing.
In 2022, he coined the phrase, which became the word of the year for Macquarie's Dictionary back in 2024.
It's described as:
“The gradual deterioration of a service or product brought about by a reduction in the quality of service provided, especially of an online platform, and as a consequence of profit-seeking.”
