This last weekend, I headed back to Huddersfield for a reunion of people who were on the same course as me, and graduated in 1985, the same year I did. I hadn't seen any of those at the reunion in person since then but recognised most of them straight away.
On the way, I caught up with two people I am definitely in touch with: Richard Allaway and Ellena Mart, who were over in the UK. Always good to catch up. Check out their websites.
Moors above Penistone - Alan Parkinson - shared on Flickr under CC licenseI was staying in the canal basin area which is a nice location across from the main building which was called PSB back in the day.
Many of the buildings I was familiar with had disappeared. I used to walk into the campus along the canal tow path having come down from Newsome and crossed the River Colne. There are still textile mills along that route, many of which had been repurposed.
I noticed the disappearance of the Union building (which was an old school), pubs, clubs and the Mei Wah chip shop with its mysteriously square fish.
The Market had also gone - it's being replaced with a new market area and housing which was trailed in large billboards all around the site - place making and redevelopment part way through.
