Worldly Wednesdays #43: Busy

Welcome to another Worldly Wednesday. There will be a 2 week break after this one as it's half term and these are only published on my Wednesdays in a teaching week.

It's a bumper issue, with plenty of interest. There's a great deal happening in the world of geography at the moment.

I spent part of today reflecting on the meeting of the RGS Education Committee yesterday. This was the first of the meetings with the expanded committee. Details of all the members and our terms of reference are here. Keep an eye out for future opportunities to get involved as well... although not for a while now as we are at full strength and I'm excited at the potential of this group of people.

Also some exciting news came out today of a band which I listened to back in the 1990s and who have announced they are reforming. Check out Sugar and Copper Blue - their classic album from back in the day and I shall be poised to get a ticket for their gigs in London in 2026.

Next up was checking proofs of a book for which I have written 2 out of the 6 chapters.
These are taking shape ready for publication in early 2026. More details will be forthcoming soon.

The books are each accompanied by Teacher Guides and a Workbook, and I checked proofs of another of those for a different book as well and got them back to the editors as quick as I could.

There were also discussions about another book - this one for teachers and hopefully out in 2026 too.

Finally, I spent a few hours editing a student workbook to accompany Benjamin Zephaniah's 'Windrush Child'. We have tweaked this each year and this required a bigger edit than usual. Coincidentally, while doing this I found that the central character of Leonard was 'born' on this day in 1947 in the book.

Just time for a beer before Celebrity Traitors continues...
