GERS Seminar on Place Representation

If you are based in London, there are lots of useful events at the Institute of Education that you are more likely to be able to get to than those who aren't.

Alex Standish has shared details of the latest seminar, on the 12th of March.

Selecting Case Studies and Representing Places in Geography

The challenge of selecting and building case studies in geography is ongoing for teachers. Which places and regions should you include/exclude in your geography curriculum and how do you decide? What are we aiming for when we teach about places?
How can we ensure that geographical concepts are illustrated through accurate context?
How can teachers/students ensure that their representations of people and places are fair and truthful, and avoiding the pitfalls of Orientalism?

Join us in person for this seminar at UCL Institute of Education. Geography teachers Ramya Rajkumar and Kate Stockings will be sharing their research and curriculum insights.

Chaired by Dr Alex Standish. Register to book your free place.

Ramya wrote an excellent chapter on this topic for the recently published 'What is Geography Teaching Today?'.

The idea of engaging with places is something that we also talked about in the recent webinars we ran for Collins International for the upcoming 'Discover Geography' series.
