If you have a few pounds to donate to a charitable cause, why not make it this one?
Chris Durbin had a big influence on my career, as one of the creators of the SLN Geography Forum which connected me with people who remain my friends decades later, and through his advice and gentle nudging to get more involved in the subject community...
He is due to do the 10th anniversary London-Paris ride for Myeloma Research.
Chris says:
I first did the ride in 2016, and then in 2018 and virtually in 2020 and 2021. I was 17 years in remission and in 2024, the disease returned and I have been treated further to some success and so it will be the first time I will ride with a drug regime. The doctors have approved so please give anything you can afford. I do this to help others, and give patients hope that they can enjoy a life with myeloma even though you would rather not have it. Please put a price on my head. Myeloma UK is deserving because it provides excellent information for patients, carers and employs expertise. I have lived overseas for 20 years but they were always inclusive.
My good friend Yasuyuki Ozeki will ride with me - he is a special friend of over 30 years and he saw me off in 2016 and helped me make sure the bike was adjusted well. He once rode from Osaka to Dublin - 'Against the Wind' - lets hope we are with the wind in May 2026. It is a special trip which will add to the world's knowledge of a disease and create special memories for both of us.
Chapeau Chris! Keep that cadence high!
